I’m so excited to tell you I finally got a new camera! I had fun playing with it after work/school the last couple evenings. Yesterday I set up a tri-pod and went to town on a DIY project I’ve had on my mind for quite awhile. It seems I never have wrapping paper on hand (because in general, I’m an ill prepared person). Luckily, I always have lots of pens and watercolors on hand to create my own! Care to join in? Great!

One disclaimer I’d like to make is that I am not the greatest fine artist in the world. In fact, most of my creative process stems from doodling and experimenting with ideas. Remember, you don’t have to be an amazing or trained artist to create. I say, the more personalized and funny your doodles, the better. For me, I’m doing something floral in honor of my Mom 🙂

Here’s what you’ll need:

Numbered DIY wrapping collage

1. Paintbrush  2. Watercolors   3. Water Resistant Ink Pen  4. Bakers Twine  5.  Potter & Butler Bow (or your choice)  6. Washi Tape (or any tape)  7. SMASH mini notes (or anygift tag…not pictured)                8. Large Page of Watercolor Paper

Step by Step Guide:

My mom is a gardener and really loves flowers. I actually grew up watching her watercolor pictures of her garden. It only seemed fitting to recreate these for her on Mother’s Day.

Very pretty
Don’t you love the rosette bow? These, along with many other wonderful celebratory creations can be found at Potter & Butler, one my favorite Etsy stores (they are located here in Portland as well)!

Mom
I hope all the Moms out there have a really relaxed and blessed Mother’s Day. You literally keep this world going round, and we all appreciate you! A very special hello to Kathy, my other (new) Mom…Kenny and I love you so much and hope you enjoy the day!

It’s supposed to be really sunny here in P-town (not a usual occurance for us)…here’s hoping you all get some sun too.

Holly Becker of Decor8 handed out the challenge above called Discomania!. It's an opportunity for bloggers to "party" together virtually by taking part in a picture op. The guidelines were as follows: take a portrait of yourself…and somehow include a disco ball or something shiny of the like. So I went for it!

If you are a blogger, join aboard! You have until January 9th to submit YOUR discomania picture…see HERE for rules and guidelines. Have fun, and don't be afraid to celebrate some bling. Trust me, I'm no glitter girl…but this was fun and an oh so great a way to introduce your blog to the world. Thanks Holly for coming up with such a fun idea!

Special thanks to Ken Kupelian for making some "makeshift" hollywood style photoshoot lighting in our living room 🙂

Alrighty everyone…I'm officially done trying to attack this 12 By 2012 list! I completed 8 of the 12 goals and I think that is pretty stinkin' good. My Husband and I set some resolutions this morning. Today is "gut the house" day for me, and budget/kuza/website day for Ken. With a little elbow grease, by Tuesday of next week we should have all those "to-dos" that have been weighing on us for months now…completed. What a great feeling! This post is SUPER fun as I finally finished a project I'd been dying to do since October, but only had time just last night!

#2 Re-finish & paint an old card showcase stand & retro desk I purchased at a garage sale = DONE & DONE!

*Special thanks to Dani at Oh, Hello Friend Blog for coming up with the wonderful 12 by 2012 idea…and for challenging us all! I love her button & banner design for the project as well (yellow square above)*

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

I didn't actually have time to paint the old card showcase. That was for the best, however, considering I still haven't decided what I want it to look like. However, the desk is all done! Remember this?

To see some of my inspirations for the completed look, see HERE. I wanted the desk to look retro and mod…1960's fun. A visual that popped in my mind was an old suitcase my mom had my brother and I use when we were little. They were from her childhood with lots of bright florals on them. I just loved those suitcases.

So, with a little of this:

I could NOT be happier with how it turned out. We had some grand ideas to take the desk to a park today and shoot it outside…but it's rainy and foggy. I was worried all my hard work might wash away being that the paint is still a wee bit tacky (meaning damp…not ugly).

I sincerely hope you have a lovely new year's eve and that you start out on YOUR resolutions strong and full of hope. I'm in the midst of a big life-change and season of growth right now, so I'm a big believer in hard work, dreams and prayer. Have a great night of parties..be safe…and I'll catch ya later!

-Jenni

I've been working away to wrap up as many of my goals as possible before 12:00am on the 1st! So here's a fun one I whipped out while watching a movie last night. I'm not sure I'm REALLY in love with them as they were a first try…but hey, they can only get better.

Fabric Design Cards!

They are pretty easy to do if you want simple ones like these. I just cut out shapes from old fabic scraps and modpodged them to pre-cut cards. I wanted my designs to look kinda, messy. Next time I may try and get fancy with the fabric making it more symetrical and detailed.

What are your new years resolutions? Any big plans or projects this weekend? I hope it's a great time! More of my last minutes tomorrow as I tackle that desk as promised! -Jenni

Remember this project from a few months back? Well I confess it's not my idea but rather a lovely thought of Dani over at Oh, Hello Friend Blog. I realized today that I only have a few days left in this year to accomplish my list…and while it's probably impossible to do it all…I may as well get a running start on a few of the items that didn't get enough love since October.

Alright, so here's MY list from months back…and here's my progress.

Sooo, as you can see I've completed about 6 1/2 of my 12 goals, abandoned a few due them just not being practical or I realized they weren't priority…and there's a few a I EASILY…well, not easily…but certainly finish up before 12:00am on January 1st. So I'll be photographing and showing you some progress over the next few days. Today I'm tackling refinishing the desks. And mind you, we live in a apartment so I'm about to take over our whole living room to do it. My poor poor husband 😉

Wish me luck!! I'll also keep you posted on the new Jarfly Rentals website which will no doubt, NOT be finished by the 1st…but very close to it.
